A Quick Weekend in Medellin for Bachelors

Last weekend we played hosts to a group of 4 guys from NYC. Cornell graduates looking to get away from their boring real estate jobs and indulge in a Medellin for bachelors trip.
Their trip was planned a few months ago and the original group of 7 ended up being a group of 4. Between the excuses of safety concerns and avoiding issues with the wives back home, the remaining 4 were the chosen ones.
We found a 5 bedroom penthouse. A stone’s throw away from Parque Lleras. In a building known for its Tuscan-style interior and amazing rooftop Jacuzzi.
The group was immediately thrilled with the idea of having a bachelor pad with a Jacuzzi. That was also walking distance to the city center.

Friday Night in Medellin

Considering this crew was a bit pickier for food than our usual clients. We decided to create an itinerary that featured an eclectic restaurant list.
We took them to La Chagra, an Amazonian restaurant located in the heart of Via Jardin. The restaurant is owned by a Colombian that lived 4 years in the Amazon and wanted to recreate his entire experience here in Medellín.
La Chagra features a 16-course tasting menu. With everything from the fruits to the cutlery coming directly from a tribe in the Amazon. All handmade and all adding to make the experience unique.

Provenza and Via Jardin

After we finished at La Chagra, walked to Provenza and discovered a bar called El Social. This place happened to have some of the most beautiful women any of these guys had ever seen. These women embodied Colombia’s diversity. Tall, blonde, fair-skin, as well as short, petite, and curvy.
Once we left El Social (a little buzzed), we went to a Lleras club called Bendito Seas where a line of women greeted us. Well, not us but they happened to be in line to get into the club.
The DJ is a good friend so he facilitated the entrance for us and even got us a table next to his booth.
The music, I will admit, isn’t what your typical group of American Bachelors prefer. But after a few drinks, don’t be surprised if you build up the courage to showcase your salsa skills (or lack thereof)
We had a blast at the VIP section where one of the guys built up enough courage to use his 10th grade Spanish to bring a girl over to the table. This girl brought a girlfriend over. Along with a friendly demeanor that came from doses of Colombian Sambuca (Aguardiente).
Our next stop on this night was one of our favorite strip clubs in Medellin. Here we bid farewell to our two female friends.
The strip club is called La Isla and on any given night it can be the happiest place on earth. With flocks of beautiful girls walking around waiting for their turn to dance on stage. This is a place you don’t want to miss.

Saturday in Medellin

After a lot to take in on day 1, the group was woken up to the smell of Banana and chocolate chip pancakes. Courtesy of our VIP Chef. We needed to get up early because day 2 is usually our Guatape Excursion (see tours in Medellin).
With the Sprinter waiting outside the apartment. We packed our cooler and loaded the guys on the bus where a 2-hour journey was underway.
We stopped a few minutes before at this traditional Colombian breakfast spot for coffee and chorizos, a great snack before our arrival in Guatape.
For those that have never heard of Guatape, it is a small town a few hours outside of Medellín. The town is colorful and features Colonial cobblestone floors, a monolith, and a lake where 40 years ago, there was a town right below it.
That’s right, the town was evacuated and flooded to build a hydroelectric dam. This dam provides 30% of Colombia’s electricity.
Our Guatape Tour consists of walking these colorful streets, climbing this monolith (700+ stairs), and taking a pontoon out on the lake for an epic daytime experience.
This 8 hour day is the best way to see the real Colombia and stray from the beaten path that is Parque Lleras. The van picked us up at 4 pm where within minutes everyone (including the guide) passed out. Guatape is a must for any Medellin for bachelors trip.
Once in Medellin, the 2-hour power nap in the van served as the perfect pick me up for what was ahead.

Saturday Night in Medellin

We made reservations at Carmen which, to many, is the best restaurant in Medellín. Owned by Colombian American, Carmen Angel and her husband, Chef Rob Pevitts. Carmen is lauded by critics from all over. Featured in the Wall Street Journal and New York Times. Carmen is one of the city’s most famous establishments and a must for traveling foodies.
The best way to enjoy Carmen is through their chef’s tasting. A 9-course meal (paired with wine) that mixes Colombia’s rich flavors with modern cooking techniques. Enjoy a great meal and a premium selection of wine for $100.
After a 2 hour long meal, the crew decided it was time to get off the premium wine and jump back on the local Medellin rum.

Parque Lleras

We walked to Parque Lleras, the streets were packed and pretty girls lit up this already bright area. With dozens of bars and clubs to choose from, we opted for a bar crawl to start off right.
We settled on a new club called La Oculta which is a rather interesting place. It’s located on the third floor of a restaurant in a sector known as Provenza. The club is in the back of a restaurant where a hidden bookcase separates Belisario from this amazing hidden gem.
La Oculta is a place where Medellín’s elite spend their weekend nights and the crowd is definitely high-end. The music is once again, reggaeton and some EDM. An ideal club for any Medellin for bachelors trip.
This is the place to be if you have a few girls you want to impress because the pick-up game has to be flawless to score numbers.
A few bottles of Goose and shots of Aguardiente later and these guys had that look on their face. The look that a host knows is code for, let’s head back to the strip club.

Saturday Night, After Midnight

We took them back to La Isla and their faces lit up when they saw that the one that got away last night was back.
Our recommendation is to order a bottle at the strip club. Individual drinks are pricey and this way, you can give the girls a drink without breaking the bank.
A few hours later, the crew was ready to call it a night.
The next morning was met with a traditional Colombian breakfast. The best way to carb up before a last-minute ATV Tour.
This is a traditional weekend in Medellin with Medellin VIP. Two nights where you’re exposed to Medellín nightlife and daytime excursions that keep your days as action-packed as your nights.
