Bachelor parties in Colombia are a guaranteed blast wherever you choose to go. From renting a yacht for the day in Cartagena to having pool parties in a lavish Medellin Villa, there is something for everyone. But what happens when you have precious time to spare and can only do one city? Which of the two deserves the title of the best city for a bachelor party in Colombia? Cartagena for Bachelor Party or Medellin for Bachelor Party?

Weather
We’re not called the city of Eternal Spring for nothing and with our yearly temperature of 72 degrees Fahrenheit. The weather is perfect year-round. Meanwhile, Cartagena might sound amazing at 84 degrees but so much humidity will catch up to you in the end.
Safety
Many have the misconception that Medellin continues to be this esoteric city with danger lurking at every corner. Where one wrong turn or extra bus stop will leave you in the hood. Did we just describe Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami, and NYC? I believe we did. Every city has its rough areas and staying safe in Medellin is just a matter of having a local with you, avoiding flashy jewelry and drawing little attention to yourself. Cartagena, although also generally safe, has been known to have street vendors, restaurant, nightclub, and retail owners try and stiff tourists with overpriced services/items.
Charm
Our main concern with Cartagena is, besides its Colonial architecture and lively streets, it continues to be one big tourist trap. Harsh claims but Medellin’s “real city”. Vibe gives you a sense of how normal people live in Colombia and it’s awesome. Cartagena is charming and perfect to explore but you only get to see the touristy walled city and even that can be done in a day.
Price
Colombia is pretty inexpensive when you compare it to your bachelor party in Jaco, Costa Rica. Medellin is way cheaper than Cartagena. Medellin still has a certain taboo to it (tell me you didn’t get a shocking stare when you told your co-workers you’re having your stag in Medellin). And while this taboo exists, prices for everyday party items can’t go up. Meanwhile, in Cartagena, everything has to be done through a dozen different people which makes you end up paying 10 times what something is worth.
Expectations
If we made our bachelor party destination decision based on places others have had fun, there is no doubt that Vegas should be visited each and every time. But if surprises and exceeding expectations is what makes a trip epic for you (as it should) Medellin is second to none. Cartagena is a beach town, you’re going to have fun, you’re going to take a boat to an island and you’re going to have good food. That’s pretty much a given, but if you want to spend a weekend in a new place with new people, few Americans, a discrete setting and crazy stories. Medellin is the place to be.
It’s hard to put into words but Medellin just has the potential to be the city where the bar will be set for future bachelor parties to come.
