One of the most important aspects of planning any bachelor party is safety. Especially when visiting a foreign country.

Cartagena is a city that too many is the ideal Colombian destination. Great food, amazing nightlife, culture and you guessed it, a beach. But what about safety? Stay tuned as we answer FAQs and give you an inside look at Cartagena, Colombia.
Safety in Colombia
Colombia gets a bad rep in large part because of its past. The country that introduced the world to Pablo Escobar was feared by many for decades. But about 10 years ago, after social programs and government intervention, the country went through a renaissance.
Today, cities like Bogota, Cartagena, and Medellin get hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. From investors to bachelor parties, the list goes on.
Major cities are predominantly safe. But as like any other major city in the world, there are things to look out for.
Safety in Cartagena
If you’re going to Cartagena, you’ll need to know that the walled city is where most people congregate.
It’s the city center that has all the best bars, clubs and restaurants. It’s heavily supervised but we still recommend keeping an eye out. There can be pickpockets and obnoxious street vendors keeping an eye out for watches and jewelry.
Not saying you shouldn’t bring anything of value but we recommend you keep your Rolex or AP at home. If you absolutely need to bring it with you, hire a VIP concierge and security guard.
Safest Place to Stay in Cartagena
Cartagena is a small city and there are only a handful of places where we recommend you stay.
Everyone knows about the walled city but there is another neighborhood called Bocagrande that is also very popular. Another great option is Castillo Grande and El Laguito. All 3 of these places are closer to the beach and predominantly safe.
We recommend a rental that is within 10-minutes of the walled city and features full-time security and daily maid service. This area is also safe and you’ll find rentals a bit more affordable than in the walled city.
Safety During Nightlife in Cartagena
If you’re part of a group that is likely going to stay out past 3-4 am, the following information will be valuable.
The walled city has a ton of pubs, bars, and rooftop clubs. Many of which are open until 3 am. If you want to continue the party, we strongly suggest bringing the party back to your hotel or Airbnb. Not because of any curfew but at this time, most people are headed back to their hotels and the streets tend to be empty past 4.
If the streets are empty, this means you’ll likely run into people trying to sell you illegal items or cops likely trying to shake you down. Neither of these is a good option so please, head back to your Airbnb.
Is Cartagena Safe?
We stated the worst-case scenarios in order for you to be on the lookout. Have a VIP host with you to steer you in the right direction. Even if you won’t be out till late, the host can help you get home safely. Chances are, you’ll be fine but even a cab driver charging you more than owed can be annoying.
