Cartagena has been on the map for a few years now. This is in large part because of the city’s historic center and spectacular nightlife. A combination that makes this particular city center a great place for couples’ retreats.
Considered a UNESCO world heritage site, Cartagena’s city center is historical, cultural, and filled with an eclectic mix of both new and old.
But where in Cartagena is the best place to stay for couples? Allow us to help get you accommodated before you land.
Best Hotels in Cartagena for Couples
In order for us to compile this list, we had to keep in mind our VIP clients. Not only are our bachelor party groups VIP. But our couples are as well. This is why we’ve put together several hotels scattered throughout Cartagena. Gems that are hidden in plain sight as well as other options right dab in the middle of the city center.
We also kept in mind price, breakfast quality, and proximity to nightlife. Here are our top 5 hotels in Cartagena for couples (in no particular order).
Hotel Bastion
If you’re that couple that isn’t looking to break the bank but looking for a well-located hotel, we recommend checking out the Bastion Hotel.
Located in the walled city and a stone’s throw away from the major restaurants and squares. The Bastion is a boutique hotel made for travelers on the go not looking to sacrifice luxury.
Built inside a 16th-century colonial house, you and your significant other would be sleeping in a place filled with a rich history.
Average Price: $250-$280 per night
Sofitel Legend Santa Clara
These hotels are in no particular order, but if they were, Sofitel’s Santa Clara would come out on top.
A hotel reserved for Colombia’s creme de la creme, this is a gem hidden in plain sight. Located right in the heart of the city center near the best restaurants and pubs, the Santa Clara doesn’t look like much on the outside. But once you enter and get a glimpse of the pool area, you’ll know this is what the nicest hotel in Cartagena looks like.
I haven’t had the chance to stay at this one but many of our clients (both bachelor parties and couples) rave about the service and amenities. I visited once for a breakfast meeting with a client and the breakfast buffet was second to none. European like pastries, as well as traditional Caribbean plates, are always available. Dozens of fruits, juices, and smiling servers.
Average Price: $350-$450 per night
Hotel Charleston Santa Teresa
I learned about the Santa Teresa Hotel a few years ago at their legendary new years eve party. Every December 31st they host the most popular new years dinner party in all Cartagena. I had the chance of checking to the hotel and I must say, it’s very similar to the Sofitel Santa Clara.
Both options are well-located, on the high-end side, and both are respected among wealthier globe-trotters.
This 400-year-old venue holds lots of history since the hotel’s opening a quarter-century ago. The Santa Teresa has seen some of the world’s most famous celebrities.
Aside from the 87 suites, the hotel also features a few restaurants that are sure to please the pickiest eaters. In fact, Harry Sasson which is one of Colombia’s most renowned celebrity chefs has one of his restaurants in the hotel.
Average Price: $300 – $350
Hotel Karibana (Conrad Hotel)
I once stayed at the Conrad so I can tell you that personally, this is one of the best hotels I’ve ever visited. I spent a few nights here with my wife back in early 2020, right before the pandemic struck.
The installations at this hotel are second to none. You’ll feel like you’re staying at an art museum that teamed up with a resort. The service is amazing, the food is great and it’s perfect for those who don’t care much for partying and want to chill.
Because of the pandemic the hotel was sold and is now called Karibana. The place is the same, the only thing that changed was its name.
The pros are of course a huge resort-like hotel with a private beach and golf course. Great bar, delicious breakfast, and under $250 per night.
Its con is location. If you are looking to have a mix of activities which include exploring the city center every day, the distance might be an issue. You’ll be a 25-30 minute drive every day.
Average Price: $200-$250 per night
Hyatt Regency Cartagena
Another option located outside of the walled city is the Hyatt Regency hotel. A hotel with an amazing ocean view and infinity pool, this place is a great option for someone looking to steer clear of the city center. Away from the hustle and bustle and something with a view. The Hyatt is also an affordable hotel for those looking to save on the extra costs that come with staying in the center.
The hotel is next door to a supermarket as well as a shopping mall. So if your significant other can’t resist, at least you’re close.
Be sure to ask about a room with a view and we’re not sure what restrictions will look like for when you visit. So be sure to ask about pool and jacuzzi times.
Average Price: $130-$180 per night
